Order to cause a ship of Matthew Cleysson of Flanders called 'Godeschild' of Lescluse to be delivered to the said Matthew to make his advantage thereof, for the king's will is that Matthew and John de Hatfeld, Roger Rotour, Thomas Pykenham, Nicholas Hotoft and Robert de Hull citizens of London, his mainpernors, be discharged of the ship and the price thereof, although the king lately ordered the inspector to cause the said ship to be appraised, in the presence of the collectors of customs in that port and of John Cory controller thereof, by the oath of merchants and other true men, and by indenture containing the price thereof, to be between the inspector, Matthew and the mainpernors made, to deliver the same to Matthew by a mainprise, for that they mainperned to answer to the king for the said ship, which was by the inspector arrested as forfeit in the said port for that 100 weys of cheese were put therein after that the ship was laded and the goods therein cocketed, and also for that Matthew broke his arrest; as oath has now been made before the king in chancery that the said cheese was of merchants of England and not of foreign merchants, whereby it ought not to be customed, nor the ship to be confiscated, and Matthew has made fine with the king by 20s. for breach of the arrest. Calendar of Plea and Memoranda Rolls 1364-81, pp. 133-4: https://www.british-history.ac.uk/plea-memoranda-rolls/vol2/pp132-149#p10 7 Nov. 1371 Writ under the Privy Seal to the Mayor and Sheriffs, ordering them to return to the Office of the Privy Seal the reason for distresses made upon John Stokflete, one of the King's carpenters, and Robert de Hull (fn. 4), one of the King's seamen. Dated at Westminster, 7 Nov. Ao 45 Edw. III [1371]. Return to the above, to the effect that distress had been made on the goods of John Stokflete for ros at which he was assessed by the men of his Ward for moneys to be raised for the Prince (fn. 5), and that Robert de Hull was likewise sequestrated for 20s assessed upon him, but broke the sequestration and paid nothing. Afterwards the collectors of the Ward demanded from the said John, 10s, and the said Robert, 20s, at which they were assessed towards the sum of £1000 recently granted to the King (fn. 6). No distress was made upon them on this occasion. The collectors also reported that John Stokflete possessed goods and chattels in the Ward to the value of £20 and more, and Robert de Hull to the value of £40 and more.

The Gascon Rolls contain the following entry for the ship 'La Trinite' in the service of Henry de Grosmont: 10 4 February 1350 . Westminster . To all admirals and their lieutenants, and to all mayors, sheriffs, bailiffs, ministers, masters and mariners of ships and all other faithful people. Letters of safe conduct for the servants of Henry [of Grosmont], earl of Lancaster , their ship and its master and mariners, and the grain and other victuals within it, crossing to Gascony. The servants of the earl, on the king's orders, have bought grain and victuals for the sustenance of the earl and others in the king's service in Gascony, taken them to the port of Bristol and loaded them into a certain ship called the Gode Biyete 1 of Lancaster , to take to the earl. The king has taken them all into his protection for the duration of the voyage, and orders that everyone should maintain, protect, defend and not molest them, or allow others to do so, and any damage caused to them should be corrected immediately.
