Incident

Id3732
Short DescriptionPetition from John Cheyne complaining of an attack led by William Haysende
DetailsThe petitioner shows that Haysende (with many other unknown wrongdoers) during the horrible uprising, that is to say, on Tuesday 18 June 1381, came with force and arms to the petitioner's parsonage in Ugborough in Devon to kill and behead him. They burned his house and he was saved by his neighbours. And all time afterwards until now Haysende and the others keep watch, such that the petitioner dare not approach the said parsonage for fear of death. He asks that Heysende be made to answer before the king to these accusations, as it cannot be done through the common law because of his great maintenance in those parts.
