DetailsAnd that William Kymberle, beheaded, carter of the Abbey of St Benet's, John atte Wode of Catfield, Richard Smyth, John atte Well senior, John his son, John atte Chaumbre of Potter Heigham, Roger his brother with others unknown up to the number of 400 on Sunday night 23rd June 1381 with force and arms and in a warlike manner at the time of the rising came to the head of the causeway of the aforesaid monastery of St Benet's and there they besieged the monastery throughout the night, and the Abbot and all his servants, and also to treacherously kill the lord bishop of Norwich if he came to that region, against the king's peace and the dignity of the crown, wherefore the said Abbot and the convent of the same place at the time of matins abandoned holy mass for fear of death and armed themselves and kept watch through the whole night to guard and defend the aforesaid monastery etc.
