Text (English translation) | Middlesex: The jurors of diverse hundreds of the aforesaid county at another time, namely in the term of Holy Trinity in the fifth year of the reign of the now king, before the lord king at Westminster presented that Robert Hynkele and others, on Thursday on the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of the now king, came to the manor of the Savoy and to the manor of St John of Jerusalem in England, and afterwards to the manor of John Butterwyk at Knightsbridge, and feloniously and traitorously burnt down the aforesaid manors and the houses within the aforesaid manors in the county of Middlesex against the peace, etc. By which the sheriff was ordered that he should not omit, etc, from taking him, if, etc. And now, namely on Monday next after the feast of St Luke the Evangelist in this same term before the lord king at Westminster, there came the aforesaid Robert Hynkele, having been brought by the sheriffs of London by virtue of a writ of the lord king thereupon directed to them, who is committed to the marshal. And immediately having been brought by the marshal, he came and spoke as to how he wishes to acquit himself of the aforesaid felony and treason. He says that he is not guilty thereof in any way, and thereupon for good and for bad puts himself upon the country. Therefore the jurors thereupon are to come before the lord king in the octave of St Hilary wherever, etc, and who, etc, to give judgment, etc. And in the meantime the aforesaid Robert is committed to prison in the custody of Robert Bracy, marshal, etc. |
