Text (English translation)Cambridgeshire. Thomas Torelle appeared through John Payn, his attorney, against Alexander Stranngeray of Bottisham, William Smythe of Bradley, John Jekel, Henry Jekel, John Jienfot of Fulbourn, John Jaggard, John Webbe of Balsham, Richard Lovel of Balsham, Robert Lovel of Balsham, John, son of Clarence Baroun and John Clement of Quy on a plea that with force and arms they broke the closes and houses of the said Thomas at Swaffham Prior, and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there to the value of £40, and also charters, writings, court rolls and other muniments of his, and other enormities. And they did not come. And the sheriff was ordered to attach them. And the sheriff reports that the aforesaid Alexander is attached by William Strangeray and John Strangeray. Therefore, they are in mercy. And the sheriff is ordered to distrain them by all lands and revenues and produce them here at the quindene of Michaelmas 1383. And regarding the aforesaid William Smythe and all the others, the sheriff reports that they have nothing etc. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to arrest them and produce them here at the aforesaid term etc.
