Text (English translation)North Erpingham Session at Cawston The jurors present that Stephen Byppes of Scottow, John Wattes of the same, Richard Fylimond of Buxton and John Gentelomme of the same made an assembly from village to village against the king's peace and then extricated themselves [i.e. they fled]. And that Thomas de Suthfolk of Swanton Abbott did likewise on Monday 17th June 1381. Also they present that Robert Jowbel of Southrepps and William Brom of Knapton admitted that they killed Sir Robert de Salle at [the Hospital of St Mary] Magdalene [at Mousehold] and then fled on the aforesaid day and year. Also they present that William de Belhous of North Walsham killed Reginald de Eccles at Norwich on the aforesaid day and year and fled. Also they present that John Bettes of North Walsham fled on the same day and year. Also they say that John Taylor of Barningham Norwood, Robert Jowbel of Southrepps and John Herman of Thwaite, along with many others, arrested John de Basyngham and Thomas Colman at Overstrand, and by force and arms led the aforesaid John and Thomas against their will up to the manors of Hanworth, Felbrigg, Barningham and Bessingham and to various other locations to burn court rolls of the said [manors], at which time the aforesaid John and Thomas despaired of their lives, on Wednesday 19th June 1381. Also they present that John Madour of Southrepps was a helper and counsellor to Geoffrey Lyster and his associates, and that the same John and Richard Bemud of Bradfield, together with others unknown, broke into the chamber of the manor of the lord Duke of Lancaster and carried away the goods of the same manor, and fled, on the aforesaid day and year. Also they present that William de Qwynbergh, formerly chaplain of the parish church of Scottow, on Saturday 29th June 1381 feloniously killed Hugo Avelyn of Great Hautbois at Scottow on the aforesaid day and year. They also present that the same William de Qwynbergh on Saturday 29th June 1381 arrested and imprisoned Brother John de Reppes in Scottow until he took a fine of 5 marks from the said John on the aforesaid day and year.
