Text (English translation) | Hundred of Larkfield John Houtekyn of Malling broke into the houses of William Topclyve and Nicholas Heryng, and is a common disturber of the peace. William Fader of Wouldham broke into the house of John Godwot and carried off a saddle worth 5 s. John Spernal of Malling on 8th June 1381 killed a shepherd of William Pour on Longfield Hill with arrows. And the same John Spernal broke into the house of John Hurt of Malling feloniously carried off a tanned hide worth 40 s. John Cartere of Ditton broke into the house of Nicholas Heryng and feloniously carried off new cloth for one tunic worth 10 s. Richard Pyx of Lenham went against the peace with many other wrongdoers to the house of Richard Ismongere and wanted to throw down the house unless Richard made a pledge to serve him. John Spenser, Alan Tresshere, John Webbe, John Ivory, Hamo Man, Robert Derbagge and Robert Swayne of East Malling rose up against the king and his people and aided other insurgents against the peace and forced the abbess of Malling to release them and other tenants from certain services. The same Alan made much damage to the house of William Topclyve. John Jolif of Snodland broke into the house of Nicholas Heryng and feloniously carried off a coat of chain mail and many other goods worth 40 s. John Leg of Birling junior aided many men in going to the house of John Little of Snodland who would have torn down his house, if the help of good men had not prevented it. (Dorse) Hundred of Larkfield The jurors say that John Man of Burham junior rose up against the king and his people and on the 7th of June 1381 went against the peace to the house of William Topclyve and tore apart the said house in the same way as others. John then went to the house of Nicholas Heryng at North Cray and with others broke into it and tore it apart. Robert Bocher of Aylesford broke into the house of Nicholas Heryng at North Cray. John Melhale of Aylesford similarly broke into the house of the said Nicholas. William Provere of Aylesford on the Sunday aforesaid carried off striped cloth worth 10 d. from the house of the aforesaid Nicholas. John Man junior, Nicholas Man senior and Henry Pilchere aided the people in rising up against the king. Thomas Crowe of Snodland went to the house of William Topclyve on the aforesaid day [...] dragging large boulders on to the house of the said William causing it to be crushed, against the peace. Margaret Staffard aided the people in the rising. John Baudry of Snodland aided the people in the rising and himself rose, and against the peace forced a certain [blank in MS] Clobbe to make a fine of half a mark, and John Hales of Malling was a leader of the wrongdoers and rose up against the peace. |
