Item dicunt quod Robertus Elmestede Thomas Cottegore de ffrythyndene et Henricus de Elmestede die Martis proxima post festum Sancte Trinitatis anno predicto quarto domos Rectoris de Stapelherst felonice prostraverunt contra pacem domini Regis. Item dicunt quod Stephanus Clerk de Lyntone die Iovis in festo Corporis Christi anno predicto quarto manerium de Savoye [f, deleted] cum aliis malefactoribus felonice combussit contra dominum Regem et populum suum. Text (English translation) | Hundred of Marden Inquisition held at Maidstone on 28th June 1381 before Thomas Holand earl of Kent and his associates, justices of the king, into various risings and assemblies against the king and his people, by oath of Robert Symond, Robert Leveshothe, John Herberesfelde, John Hyerdesfelde, John Plussyngherst, John Harry, John Rolff, William Southlonde, Luke Pertrych, Thomas Fycayt, Robert Rouysdon and William Smyth, who say that John Gervays of Goudhurst on 17th June 1381 with other wrongdoers went to the parish of Marden and made various uprisings and assemblies against the king's peace, and placed Joanna the widow of Martin Sherreve in seisin of one messuage. John Onewynne of Melkhouse on 10th June 1381 at Appledore with others unknown feloniously pulled down the houses of William Horne against the king and his people. Robert Elmestede, Thomas Cottegore of Frittenden and Henry de Elmestede on 11th June 1381 feloniously pulled down the houses of the rector of Staplehurst against the king and his people. Stephen Clerk of Linton on 13th June 1381 with other wrongdoers feloniously set fire to the manor of the Savoy against the king and his people. They also say that all those named above committed these offences in the said rising of their own free will. |
