4657 | Order to inquire into defences erected against rebels by men of Huntingdon | Order to John Holt, Robert de Stokes, knight, and William Thirnyng, to inquire into the complaint of the tenants of the manor of Godmanchester, who say that that men of the vill of Huntingdon placed barriers before the bridge of Huntingdon against the rebels during the recent insurrection, on the grounds of the said manor, but now refuse to remove them or to allow the men of Godmanchester to remove them, to their damage. Jury summoned excepting men of Godmanchester and Huntingdon for 3 August 1382. The inquisition finds that the barriers have been fixed on the soil of the town of Godmanchester and not that of Huntingdon since 24 June 1381 at the time of the insurrection, by the licence of John Crull, then one of the bailiffs of the vill of Godmanchester, and with the assent and will of the aforesaid John Crull and Walter Rudham, then one of the bailiffs of the aforesaid vill of Huntingdon. | Godmanchester,Huntingdonshire; Huntingdon,Huntingdonshire | Juror | View Incident page |
