| Text (English translation) | 1382. Dec. 8. Westminster. Order and strict injunction to the bailiffs of Scarborough and William de Stapelton, John de Felton, John Gillymore, John Rykeman, William Wybarn and John Gregman, burgesses of the said town, at their peril, to levy 400 marks from all the burgesses and commons of the town, (except those mentioned below), to wit, from each of them what his means will allow, sparing no one, and to cause answer to be made therefor at the receipt of the Exchequer; as all the burgesses and commons of the said town, (except forty burgesses, to wit, Henry de Ruston the elder, John de Rillyngton, John de Wawayn, William de Schropham, Robert Paa, John de Stokwyth, John de Brun, William Sage, John de Barton, John de Morshom the elder, William Carter, Alan Waldiff, John de Acclom, Henry de Ruston the younger, William Scot, Richard de Schropham, William Percy, John Coroner, Richard Cholman, Thomas del Lane, Peter Wistowe, John de Seterington, John Coke, Richard Coupere, Reynold Gerrard, Thomas Sergeant, Thomas Peke, Adam Clerk, Adam de Seterington, John de Scalby, Thomas de Brun, John Page, William de Novo Castro, Hugh de Barton, William Manby, Richard de Kychin, Henry Wresill, Robert Erle, Roger Baxter and Thomas Maldson of Falsgrave, have made fine with the king for 400 marks, payable at certain terms, before John, king of Castile and Leon, duke of Lancaster, and others, late justices of oyer and terminer in the county of York, for certain contempts and offences against the king's royal majesty.
