Text (English translation) | Richard, by the grace of God king of England and France and lord of Ireland, to the beloved to him Robert Basset, late his escheator in the county of Hertfordshire, greetings. Wishing for certain causes to be made more certain by you about the manner and cause of the taking of lands and tenements, which were of John Wilkyn, deceased, with appurtenances in Kings Walden in our hands, as it is said. We order you that you render us more certain thereof in our Chancery under your seal clearly and openly without delay, and you send the inquisition, if you take any in this matter, to us in our said Chancery similarly, and this writ. Witnessed by me, myself, at Westminster on the fifth day of February in the fifth year of our reign. [Dorse]: The execution of this writ is clear in an inquisition attached to this writ. [Who] say upon their oath that John Wylkyn, who was convicted for felony and treason, made upon the lord king, at St Albans before the justices of the lord king ... ... ..., aforesaid, was seised in his demesne as of fee of one messuage, built, three tofts, 164 acres of arable land, whereof 24 acres lie ... ... ... seven acres of wood, three acres of meadow, 26s 6½d, two pounds of cumin, rent, worth 3d, ... ... in King's Walden, each of which ... ..., which lies in common, is worth per annum 1d.
