To this court [comes] John Bedeford, plaintiff, and offers himself against John Capers in a plea of trespass. And he says that on Wednesday before the feast of Corpus Christi 4 Richard II (12 June 1381) John Capers came with force and arms and together with his associates to the house of John Bedeford and there took and carried away divers necessaries, goods and chattels of John Bedeford to the damage of 40s. And the said John Capers, present in court, defends the force [and injury] and says that is not guilty and puts himself on the country. Bedeford does likewise. And upon this the bailiff is ordered to gather a group of 12 men until the next court etc.
