Text (English translation)[Southchurch] Court held there on Tuesday next after the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 5 Richard II (10 September 1381), namely the first court held after the insurrection of the men etc. To this court come William Paperel and Johanna, his wife, who held of the lord a messuage and five acres of customary land and one acre of marsh land by the right of his wife, which were seized into the lord's hand by reason of the rebellion and burning of the court rolls and other evidences of the lord; and this William and Johanna ask for the lord's grace to have those lands again; and they are granted to them, to hold by the same William and Johanna as in their former condition of the lord by service and custom of the manor etc. Without prejudice. And they give the lord the entry fine; and do fealty [in the margin 6s 8d] This is followed by 10 further regrants of customary holdings.
