Text (English translation)Court with view 2 January 1385 ... Whereas at the court and view held on Saturday after the feast of Circumcisio Domini 7 Richard II (2 January 1384) a messuage and 6 acres of land with appurtenances, called 'Adekokis', which did belong to John Soutere, was taken into the hand of the lord, because the said John refused to contribute with the other tenants to a certain aid for a cow-shed which the lord caused to be made new, as is shown by the extent. And afterwards in this court, after the death of the said John, the lord of his special grace, grants the said tenement with appurtenances to Isabel(?) widow of the said John to hold according to the enrolment in the first court after the rumour and the burning of the rolls, held on Friday after the feat of Michaelmas 5 Richard II (4 October 1381), at the will of the lord for services and the custom of the manor. Without prejudice etc. And she dores not give a fine because it remitted by the lord [in the margin: fealty] [A second grant involving Marieta Revers, her late husband William and her son, also named William, mentions the enrolment in the first court after the rising.]
General InformationThe court rolls restart in January 1383. The courts mentioned, 4 Oct 1381 and 2 January 1384, are lost.
