Text (English translation)1382. March 20. Westminster. To the mayor and bailiffs of Thefford [Thetford], John Berte, Thomas Walters and Richard Paltoke. Order, upon petition of John Cranewys one of the clerks of chancery, to deliver to him 40s. yet in their keeping; as his petition shews that at the time of the insurrection he was threatened in life and limb and that his houses should be burned, that to save his life and houses certain of his friends made a fine of 40s. with the said (sic) John Buntynges, and paid it of the petitioner's money, that John Buntynges was taken, brought to Thefford [Thetford], and there beheaded, and that the money was then found upon him, which the mayor etc. seized as forfeit to the king, and he acknowledged the same before his death to be the sum received of the said John Cranewys.
