Text (English translation) | 1383. Jan. 22. Westminster. To Robert Parys escheator in Cambridgeshire. Order to give John Saferay of Stowe Cumquy [Stow cum Quy] livery of all his lands taken into the king's hand by Ralph Wykes late escheator, and the issues and profits thereof since 22 November 5 Richard II, on which date the king pardoned him for treasons, felonies and trespasses committed in the insurrections of May, June and July then last for which he was indicted, and any outlawries published against him, restoring of the king's gift his goods and chattels appraised at 20l. 2s. 6½d., although forfeit for that cause, provided he was not one of the principals in the manslaughter of the archbishop, the treasurer or the chief justice, in burning the Savoye [Savoy] or the house of Clerkenwelle [Clerkenwell], or in the manslaughter of the prior of Bury, so that henceforth he shall be of good behaviour, and shall stand to right in the king's court if any will bring a cause against him; and he has found before the sheriff and coroners security for his good behaviour, as appears by certificate of the sheriff sent into chancery, and although indicted for certain misprisions in time of the insurrection and put in exigents, wherefore his goods and chattels were forfeit, it seems reasonable to the king, the justices and others of the council learned in the law that his lands shall be restored, for that he is not outlawed, as appears by the record and process before Hugh la Souche [Zouche] and his fellows, justices appointed in Cambridgeshire to chastise the insurgents, which the king has caused to come before him in chancery. |
