Text (English translation) | Middlesex A jury of various hundreds of the aforesaid county previously, namely in the Easter term in the fifth year of the present king's reign, presented before the lord king at Westminster that John Hore of Knightsbridge and others came, feloniously and treacherously, to the house of John Boterwyk at Knightsbridge and Tothill and at the said John's house they set a fire, contrary to the peace, on the Friday following the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the present king's reign, and feloniously and treacherously burnt the aforesaid houses. Because of which the sheriff was ordered not to fail etc, but to seize him if etc. And now, namely on the Monday following the feast of St Luke the Evangelist in this same term, the aforesaid John Hore appeared before the lord king at Westminster and surrendered himself to the prison of the lord king's marshal for the aforesaid reason; and he is handed over to the marshal. And immediately, led by the marshal, he appears and is asked how he wishes to acquit himself of the aforesaid felony and treason. He says that the present lord king, in his parliament assembled at Westminster on the Monday on the octave of Michaelmas in the sixth year of his reign in England, at the request of his aforesaid realm, has of his special grace pardoned and remitted to all and each of his lieges and the inhabitants of his realm, of whatever status, rank or condition they are, except for all those whose names had previously been delivered into the same king's parliament in the fifth and sixth years of the same king's reign, to be excepted from all grace then granted by the same king, as, that is, the principals, initiators, abetters and instigators of the insurrection that has lately treacherously arisen within the aforesaid realm, of which they are accused etc., the suit of his peace [and] whatever belongs or can belong to him for all manner of treasons and felonies done or perpetrated in any way in the said insurrection, namely between the first day of May in the fourth year of his reign and the feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist then following, for which they are indicted, accused or appealed, and also outlawries if any etc. and he has granted them and each of them his permanent peace etc., as if each of them, individually, had with him, or had obtained, his charter from the same king on this; because of which the same John Hore, by virtue of the aforesaid grace and pardon, asks that he might be delivered from the lord king's prison etc., and leave without day with regard to the aforesaid felonies and treasons etc. And when the statute concerning the ordinance of the aforesaid grace, pardon and remission, sent here into court by the same lord king under his great seal, so that it might be firmly upheld according to the tenor and effect of the same, had been seen and carefully examined, and the roll of the names of those whose names had been delivered into the same king's said parliament in the fifth and sixth years of his reign, to be excepted from all grace then granted by the same king, and afterwards delivered here before the lord king to make process against them, had also been seen, because the same John Hore is not named in the said roll, it is decided that the aforesaid John Hore, by virtue of the aforesaid grace, remission and pardon, should go from here without day with regard to the aforesaid felonies and treasons etc. |
