Text (English translation) | The king to all his bailiffs etc., greetings. Know that out of reverence for God and at the special request of Anne, queen of England, our most dear consort, and from consideration of the good and faithful conduct of our subjects towards our progenitors and us, which we have experienced before the insurrections of certain rebels of ours, which have lately taken place against us and our peace, and so that our individual subjects might have happier hearts to remain faithfully in faith and love towards us, we have, of our special grace, pardoned to Walter Braban of Kegworth in the county of Leicester the suit of our peace which belongs to us for all manner of felonies perpetrated by him before the fourteenth day of December last, for which he has been indicted, accused or charged, except for treasons, murders and rapes of women, and also outlawries, if any have been pronounced against him for these reasons, and we grant him our permanent peace on this, provided that he has not been adjudged to be a common thief or a common homicide, and also that he is not an approver or appealed of theft and that he is [not] appealed of homicide where the appeal is pending at the suit of the party, nor did he escape from or leave prison and did not surrender himself to the same prison, and that on the said fourteenth day of December he was not held in prison for theft only. Furthermore we have pardoned and remitted to the same Walter whatever belongs to us from him for any trespasses and misprisions done or perpetrated by him before the aforesaid fourteenth day of December, for which fines or redemptions should be made to us or our heirs - debts to us, and recognizances and bonds for any securities of the peace or otherwise made to us or our progenitors, and also fines concerning lands or tenements always reserved to us. Provided that he stands to right in our court if anyone should wish to speak against him concerning the aforesaid or any of the aforesaid. In testimony of which thing etc. Witness myself at Westminster, the eleventh day of May in the fifth year of our reign. A charter in the same form was granted to John Chaumberleyn, parson of the church of North Kilworth in the county of Leicester, the suit etc. Witness etc., the sixth day of May in the fifth year. |
