And on this he brings suit etc. And the aforesaid Gilbert Helgeye, John Cotton senior, John Cotton junior, John Puttok, Claricia Bernard, Rainier Dassho, Robert son of John Socreman, Robert son of John Bettesson, Richard Bernere, William Casell, William Soutere and John his son, Robert Virly, William Litle, John Capron, John son of John Fokys, Robert Margarete, John Salman, Geoffrey Hewet, Alexander Bullok, William Pay, John Curteys, Robert son of Walter Socreman, Robert Gunnour, Richard Elsy, Robert Fyssher, Gilbert Miles, Thomas Socreman, Richard Arnald, William Socreman, John Brunston, John Sandon, chaplain, John Skot, John Sabelot, Robert Sabelot of Wridlyngton, Walter Bateman, Thomas Bocher, Richard Skot, John Frere, Laurence Smyth, John Cristemesse and Matthew his son, John le Grete, thatcher, John Mile junior, John Helgey, John Gilberd, Ralph Lepemaker, William Dowe, John Gerard, William Alberd, William Smyth, John Broun, William Godehykke and Robert Godehykke appear through Stephen del Fall their attorney, and defend the force and injury when etc. And whatever is against the lord king's peace etc. And they say that they are in no way guilty of this, and on this they put themselves on the country. And the aforesaid William Ingram likewise. And the aforesaid John Knarre and John Wardon say that the day and year on which the aforesaid William Ingram claims that the aforesaid transgression against him took place, was at the time of the insurrection, and the aforesaid William Ingram was one of the insurgents, and came to the aforesaid vill of Isleham as the lord king's enemy and rebel, and wanted the said lord king's people there to rise up against the same king and their allegiance. The aforesaid John Knarre and John Wardon were asked by Robert Love and Henry atte Bothe, then the constables of the same vill of Isleham, to arrest and guard the same William Ingram until the said William Ingram found pledges for them of his good conduct towards the same king and his people. And when he had found pledges for security they let him go free; and they ask for judgment if he can assign any injury to their persons in this case. And the aforesaid William Bryghchyld, John le Grete, tailor, John Dally, Richard Taillour, John Wykham, Richard Mariot, John Love of Isleham, John Burman, tailor, and Richard Smyth were neighbours of the same John Knarre and John Wardon, and came with them to aid the same John Knarre and John Wardon, on the orders of the aforesaid constables, as they were well allowed to do, without doing any injury. And they request judgment etc. And the aforesaid William Ingram says that he should not be precluded from his action for the reason previously alleged, because he says that they imprisoned him to his own injury and without such a case, as he supposes by his writ and in his declaration alleged above. And on this he puts himself on the country. And the aforesaid John Knarre and John Wardon and John Brygtchild and others likewise etc. Therefore a jury is to appear before the lord king on this at the octaves of St Hilary wherever etc. Et who do not etc. to investigate etc. because as much etc. The same day is given both [to the aforesaid parties etc. and] to Richard son of Richard atte North and Hugh Deresson etc. On which day the sheriff did not send the writ. Therefore as before the sheriff is ordered to have appear before the lord king at the octaves of the Purification of the Blessed [Mary] wherever etc. And who do not etc. to investigate etc. because as much etc. The same day is given to the parties etc. and also to the aforesaid Richard son of Richard atte North.
