Inquisition, taken at Northampton on Tuesday next after the feast of the translation of St Thomas the Martyr in the sixth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, before William la Zouche of Harringworth and his fellow justices of the lord king, assigned to chastise and punish diverse wrongdoers and disturbers of the peace of the lord king in the county of Northamptonshire, both insurging within the liberty and outside and in the future ... ..., by the oath of 12 jurors of the vill of Northampton. Who say upon their oath that William Napton of Northampton during the whole time of the detestable disturbance, lately made by diverse men insurging [against] the peace of the lord king and contrary to their allegiance within the realm of England, was a common procurer and agitator of men from the community of the vill of Northampton by word, craft and trickery, to cause the same men to rise up in a hostile manner against the mayor [of the vill] of Northampton, who then was, and other upright and lawful men of the said vill of Northampton, and against the peace of the lord king, and afterwards he was and still is an inciter of this inquisition, in as far as ... from which great danger could happen ... and a disturber of the peace of the lord king.
