Text (English translation) | Memorandum that by certain lords of the realm in this parliament were delivered the names of Thomas Farndon and Richard Dell as exempt from the king's grace along with those of his lieges who were principal rebels in the recent insurrection in the realm, against the peace of the crown and dignity of the king, and especially the leaders in the burning and destruction of the house and manors of the order of St John of Jerusalem in England, and it is agreed that they will be exempt from all grace and pardon, according to such process as was ordained against those other traitors who were similarly exempt from grace, for the reason of the parliament held at Westminster on the morrow of Souls in the fifth year of the king's reign, and for this reason their names are delivered and sent by writ to the King's Bench. Response by sheriffs of London to writ certiorari super causa capcionis, dated 11 Oct 6 Ric. II, as follows: We, John Sely and Adam Bamme, sheriffs of London, make known to you that a long time before the arrival of the writ of the lord king, directed to us and attached to these presents, Robert Glouvere and Stephen Mordok, named in the said writ, at the time of Walter Doget and William Knyghtcote, late sheriffs of the said city, at the time of the last insurrection were arrested, viz the aforesaid Robert by a former servant of John Philpot on suspicion of insurrection and wrongdoing at the time of the abovesaid insurrection, and the aforesaid Stephen by Simon Matchyng, ostler, on suspicion of insurrection and wrongdoing in the aforesaid insurrection, and for this reason the same Robert and Stephen were then committed to the prison of the lord king of Newgate, and for the aforesaid reason are still detained in the same prison. |
