| Text (English translation) | Cambridgeshire Isabella who was the wife of Edmund de Walsyngham appeared on the fourth day through Robert Essex, her attorney, against William Kneshale, senior, James West, Henry Peyntour, Henry Hereward, Nicholas Bokiswod, John Rede, Thomas Taunt, Richard Crisp of Eversden, Thomas Dawe and John Wyrgell, Robert Wragby, Thomas Heyle, Thomas Gernoun, Peter Carter, Peter Neweman, John Dawe, John Maye and Nicholas Maye, in a plea of why with force and arms they broke into the same Isabella's close and houses at Great Eversden, and took and carried off the timber of the aforesaid houses, and other goods and chattels of hers found there, to a value of 40 pounds, and other outrages etc. And they did not appear. And the sheriff was ordered to distrain them etc. And the sheriff now sends word that the aforesaid William is distrained by his chattels to the value of 6 pence. And mainprise by William Ive, John Kneshale, James West, William Knot. And the aforesaid James by his chattels to the value of six pence. And mainprise by William Kneshale, William Rote, John James and Walter West. And the aforesaid Henry Peyntour by his chattels to the value of six pence. And mainprise by James West, William Peyntour, Roger Peyntour and James Welby. And the aforesaid Henry Hereward by his chattels to the value of four pence. And mainprise by Henry Peyntour, John Poyntell, Walter Gayte and John Brode. And the aforesaid Nicholas Bokiswod by his chattels to the value of six pence. And mainprise by Henry Hereward, John Cons, William Grult and John Canut. And the aforesaid John Rede by his chattels to the value of six pence. And mainprise by Henry Hereward, William Rede, John Rous and William Rede. And the aforesaid Thomas Taunt by his chattels to the value of four pence. And mainprise by Henry Rede, John Rede, William Crouk and John Ive. And the aforesaid Richard Crisp by his chattels to the value of six pence. And mainprise by Thomas Taunt, William Taunt, William Crisp and Ralph Ivell. And the aforesaid Thomas Dawe by his chattels to the value of four pence. And mainprise by Richard Dawe, William Kneshale, James Dawe and Robert Dreu. Therefore they are in mercy. And as before the sheriff is ordered to distrain them by all their lands etc. And about the issue etc. And he is to have their bodies here, fifteen days after Michaelmas day. And concerning the aforesaid John Wirgell, Robert Wragby, Thomas Heyle, Thomas Gernoun, Peter Carter, Peter Neweman, John Dawe, John Maye and Nicholas Maye, the sheriff was ordered to seize them etc. And the sheriff now sends word that they are not found etc. Therefore the sheriff is ordered as before to seize them if etc. So that he has their bodies here at the aforesaid term etc. |
