Text (English translation) | The jurors present that William Buttermore, on Thursday on the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, feloniously and traitorously made an insurrection against the lord king and his loyal subjects, and feloniously and traitorously burnt down the house and church of the hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England of Clerkenwell at Smithfield in the county of Middlesex, together with other traitors of the lord king. Item, they present that Peter Cammel by another name of Peter Parvynthe of the county of Somerset, together with other aforesaid traitors of the lord king in the ... ... year, feloniously and traitorously burnt down the manor of John, duke of Lancaster, at the Savoy in the county of Middlesex, and feloniously and traitorously took and carried away goods and chattels to the value of £1,000, found there. Item, they present that William March of Weobley in the county of Herefordshire, John Lokyere of Chelmsford in the county of Essex, Richard Hankyner of Holborn and Thomas Mercer of Newcastle upon Tyne, and Nicholas, late servant of William Ludgereshale of Westminster, together with other traitors of the lord king, on the aforesaid day and year, feloniously and traitorously burnt down the manor of John, duke of Lancaster, at the Savoy in the county of Middlesex, and that they are common robbers. Item, they present that William Gardener of Westminster, late servant of John, duke of Lancaster, was accused of having been one of the chief leaders in the burning of the palace of the Savoy and the house of the Hospitallers. Item, they present that John Clerk, 'harecarter' of Coventry, John Hernyngton, servant of the cantor of the church (founded from the abbey of Westminster), William Jolomere of Greenwich, Robert Hondon, clerk, William Staunton, tailor, Richard Dwell of the county of Norfolk, and William Carpenter of Stratford le Bow, formerly doorkeeper of the abbey, were there as traitors of the lord king, and traitorously and feloniously made an insurrection against the same king and his loyal subjects on Thursday in the feast of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of King Richard II after the conquest, burnt down the houses of the aforesaid duke at the Savoy in the county of Middlesex and the houses and church of St John of Jerusalem in England at Smithfield, and were the principal men in the aforesaid insurrection. Item, they present that Richard Burell with others unknown, on Friday on the morrow of Corpus Christi in the aforesaid year, feloniously broke into the chapel of St Mary of Rounceval and took and carried away goods and chattels of the same chapel to the value of £100 at Charing, and he is a common robber.
