Et Thomas Noteman in dicto brevi nominatis dicto tempore insurrecionis arestatus fuit in civitate predicta per Iohannem Canynges constabularium warde de Farndon' intra London et alios eiusdem ward' pro eo quod ipse tempore predict' commot' fuit malefactor ac depredator equorum Prioris Hospital' S' Iohann' Ier' in Angl' et hoc coram Willelmo Walleworth tunc maiore civitatis predicte tempore capcionis sue palam fatebatur. Text (English translation) | [The king] to John Hende and John Rote, our sheriffs of London, we certify that Robert de Spaldyng, in the present king's writ named as Robert Godewyne of Spalding, was arrested in the city of London and committed to the king's prison of Newgate at the time of the insurrection on suspicion of being one of the rebels at the aforesaid time. And moreover the same Robert is detained in the aforesaid prison at the suit of Richard Radewell, stockfishmonger of London in a plea of debt for 1005 marks. And John Hallyng named in the present writ was captured at the time of the insurrection in the aforesaid city on suspicion of being one of the rebels of this kind and is committed to the prison of Newgate. And moreover the same John Hallyng is detained in the aforesaid prison for 40 d. of damages decreed to Robert Little in a certain plea held in the king's court before Walter Doget, lately one of the sheriffs of the said city. And Thomas Noteman named in the present writ was arrested at the time of the insurrection in the aforesaid city by John Canynges, constable of the ward of Farringdon Within, London, and others of the same ward, on a charge that at the time of the aforesaid dissension he was a malefactor and plunderer of horses belonging to the Prior of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England, and he was captured before William Walleworth, then mayor of the aforesaid city, and confessed openly. And for this reason the aforesaid Robert, John and Thomas were captured and the same day detained in the aforesaid prison on the charges thus far. Witnessed 8th May 5 Ric II. |
