Text (English translation) | Hertfordshire. Thomas Goldyngtone was attached to answer Henry Ymeigne on a plea that he, together with William Seniere, broke the close and houses of the said Henry at Stret, and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there to the value of £40, and inflicted other enormities on him, to the grave damage of the said Henry and against the King's peace etc. And whence the same Henry complains in person that on Monday 17 June 1381 the said Thomas, together with etc., broke the close and houses of the said Henry at Stret with force and arms, namely swords, bows and arrows, and he took and carried away his goods and chattels found there, namely woollen and linen cloth, bronze and wooden vessels, and other necessaries of the home to the value etc, and other enormities etc to the grave damage etc, and against the peace, whence he says that he suffered damages to the value of 100m. And thereof he produces suit. And the aforesaid Thomas appeared through Thomas Lynton, his attorney, and says that he is not guilty of the aforesaid trespass and places himself on the country. And the aforesaid Henry likewise. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to summon twelve jurors here at the quindene of Michaelmas 1383. At which day, the parties appeared and the sheriff did not send the writ. Therefore, as previously, the sheriff is ordered to summon twelve jurors for the quindene of Hilary 1384. |
