Text (English translation)Middlesex. William Blount of London was attached to answer William atte Wyke on a plea that with force and arms he broke the house of the said William atte Wyke in the parish of Saint Mary Matfelun outside the Aldgate of London, and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there to the value of £40, and inflicted other enormities on him to the grave damage of the said William atte Wyke, and against the King's Peace. And whence the same William atte Wyke complains through John Seymour, his attorney, that on Thursday 13 June 1381, with force and arms, namely swords, sticks and planks, the aforesaid William Blount broke the house of the said William atte Wyke in the parish of Saint Mary Matfelun outside the Aldgate of London, and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there, namely linen and woollen cloth, bronze, brass and wooden vessels, choice table-cloths, napkins, gold necklaces and silver spoons, and other necessaries of the home to the value etc and other enormities etc to the grave damage etc and against the peace etc. Whence he says that he suffered damages to the value of £60. And thereof he produces suit. And the aforesaid William Blount came in person, and he defended the force and injury when etc. And hereupon a day is given to the parties aforesaid here in the octave of Michaelmas 1383. At which day, the aforesaid William atte Wyke came, through his aforesaid attorney, and appeared against the aforesaid William Blount on the aforesaid plea. And he does not come. And the sheriff is ordered to distrain him by all lands and revenues and produce him here in the octave of Hilary 1384. At which day, the sheriff did not send the writ. Therefore, just as previously, the sheriff is ordered to distrain him here in the octave of Trinity 1384.
