Et vnde idem Ricardus Scryueyner in propria persona sua queritur quod predicti Ricardus Lokyer Robertus et Thomas et Thomas simul etc die sabati proxima post festum Corporis Christi anno regnorum domini Regis nunc quarto vi et armis scilicet gladiis arcubus et sagittis clausum et domos ipsius Ricardi apud villam de Sancto Albano fregerunt et bona et catalla sua videlicet pannos lineos et laneos lectos linthiamina mazeros ciphos argentios cochearia argentea ollas et patellas eneas cimas vasa enea et lignea maeremium et tabulas et alia diuersa vtensilia domus ad valenciam etc ibidem inuenta ceperunt et asportauerunt. Et inde producit sectam etc. Et predicti Ricardus Lokyer Robertus Marshalle Thomas et Thomas per [name missing] attornatum suum venerunt. Et defenderunt vim et iniuriam quando etc. Et dicunt quod ipsi non sunt culpabiles de transgressione predicta prout predictus Ricardus Scryueyner superius versus eos queritur. Et de hoc ponent se super patriam. Et predictus Ricardus Scryueyner similiter. Ideo preceptum est vicecomiti quod venire faciat hic in octabis Sancti Michaelis xii etc per quos etc. Et qui nec etc. Ad recognoscendum etc. Quia tam etc. Idem Ricardus Scryueyner in propria persona sua optulit se quarto die versus predictos Iohannem Walterum Iohannem Iohannem et Iohannem de predicto placito. Et ipsi non venerunt. | Text (English translation) | Hertfordshire. Richard Lokyer, Robert Marsshalle of Barnet, Thomas Cristomasse and Thomas Carter were attached to answer Richard Scryveyner of Saint Albans on a plea that they, together with John Welles, Walter of the Bakhouse, John Barker, dyer, John Hardy and John Sabinghe, skinner, junior, with force and arms, broke the close and houses of the aforesaid Richard Scryveyner at the town of Saint Albans, and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there to the value of 40m, and inflicted other enormities on him, to the grave damage of the said Richard Scryveyner and against the King's peace. And whence the same Richard Scryveyner complains in person that the aforesaid Richard Lokyer, Robert and Thomas and Thomas, together with etc, on Saturday 15 June 1381, with force and arms, namely swords, bows and arrows, broke the close and houses of the said Richard at the town of Saint Albans, and took and carried away his goods and chattels found there, namely choice linen and woolen cloth, bed-clothes, mazers, silver cups, silver spoons, bronze pots and pans, tubs, bronze and wooden vessels, timber and planks, and other necessaries of the home, to the value etc. And other enormities etc. To the grave damage etc. And against the peace etc. Whence he says that he suffered damages to the value of £100. And thereof he produces suit. And the aforesaid Richard Lokyer, Robert Marshalle, Thomas and Thomas appeared through their attorney, and say that they are not guilty and place themselves on the country. And the aforesaid Richard Scryveyner likewise. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to summon twelve jurors here at the octave of Michaelmas 1382. The same Richard Scryueyner appeared in person against the aforesaid John, Walter, John, John and John on the aforesaid plea. And they did not come. And the sheriff was ordered to attach them. And the sheriff reports that they have nothing. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to arrest them and produce them here at the aforesaid term etc. |
