finis xij d. fidelitas Ad istam curiam dominus concessit Johanni Ryngger Johannae uxori suae unum messuagium et tres acras terrrae customariae quae quondam fuerunt Johannis Stewene et quae ijdem Johannes Ryngger et Johanna prius tenuerunt ex sursum redditione Nicholai Sorel et postea in manus domini seysita causa rumoris nuper in patria existentis, tenendum predictis Johanni Ryngger et Johannae et sequelae de corporibus eorum exeunte. Et si contingerit eisdem Johannem et Johannam sine sequela de se exeunte decedere tunc predicta messuagium et terra rectae sequelae dictae Johannae remeneant, tenendum de domino in bondagio ad voluntatem etc. faciendo inde servicia et consuetudines quae ad dictam terram pertinent. Text (English translation) | Porters Hall, court, Thursday before St Andrew 5 Ric. II (28 November 1381) fine, half a mark John Cool puts himself into the lord's grace, because he came with enemies of the lord king into the lord's enclosure against his [the lord's] will when the lord's rolls were burnt. And the lord by his special grace forgives him the aforesaid trespass, upon the condition that he pay the lord 40 d. on the Wednesday next before Christmas next, and 40 d. on the Sunday in the middle of Lent, taking into account that he is poor. fine, half a mark John Thecchere the younger puts himself into the lord's grace, because he came with enemies of the lord king into the lord's enclosure against his [the lord's] will when the lord's rolls were burnt. And if it should happen that the same John and Joan die without issue of themselves, then the aforesaid messuage and land should remain to the right issue of the said Joan, to hold of the lord in bondage at the will etc., doing therein the services and customs that pertain to the said land. And seisin was granted to them, saving the right of each. And they give a fine for entry, as appears. And they did fealty. fine, 12 d. fealty At this court the lord re-granted to Christina who was the wife of John Ilger three ware acres of customary land with the appurtenances which the same Christina formerly held by the surrender of William Colyer, and were seized into the lord's hands by reason of the uproar etc., to hold to the same Christina for her entire life at the will etc., saving the right etc., according to the customs etc. And after the death of the same Christina the aforesaid land should remain to John her son, to hold to himself and his issue at the lord's will, saving the right etc., according to the customs etc. And she gives a fine for entry, as appears. And she did fealty. fine, 12 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to John Ryngger and Joan his wife six acres of land and four acres of customary alder grove and pasture, which the same John and Joan formerly held by the surrender of Joan Horn, and were seized into the lord's hands by reason of the uproar and the burning of the rolls here, to hold to the same John and Joan for their entire life at the will etc., according to the customs etc. And after their death the aforesaid six acres of land and four acres of alder grove and pasture should remain to Richard, the son of the same John and Joan, and his issue, to hold at the will etc. according to the customs etc. And they give a fine for entry, as appears. And they did fealty. fine, 2 s. fealty At this court the lord granted to John Litle ten acres of customary land and pasture called Coloppes, which the same John formerly held by the surrender of John Brok and Sabina his wife, and which afterwards were seized into the lord's hands for the reason above said, to hold to the same John Litle and his heirs at the will etc., according to the customs etc. And he gives a fine for entry, as appears. And he did fealty. fine, 12 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to John recently son of Simon Litle two acres of neif land with a grange built thereupon, and also a messuage which once was John Duraunt's, which the aforesaid John Litle formerly held by the surrender of Nicholas Sorel, and were seized into the lord's hands for the reason abovesaid, to hold to the aforesaid John Litle and the heirs begotten of his body in bondage at the will etc., according to the customs etc. And if it should happen that the same John should die without heir issuing of his body, then the aforesaid tenements s hould remain to the right heirs of the aforesaid Simon, to hold at the will etc., according to the customs etc. And he gives a fine for entry, as appears. And he did fealty. fine, 2 s. fealty At this court the lord granted to William Thurgor seven ware acres of customary land, which the same William formerly held by inheritance after the death of Robert Thurgor his father, and were seized into the lord's hands for the reason above said, to hold to the aforesaid William and his heirs at the will etc., according to the customs etc. And he gives a fine for entry, as appears. And he did fealty. fine, 40 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to Sabina wife of John Brokes a messuage and ten acres of customary land which the same Sabina formerly held by inheritance after the death of Mary in the Heye her mother, and he also granted to the same Sabina four acres of customary land which the said Sabina formerly held by inheritance after the death of Roger in the Heye her father, and which were seized into the lord's hands for the cause above said, to hold to the aforesaid Sabina and her heirs at the will etc., by the services and customs etc. And she gives a fine for entry, as appears. And she did fealty. fine, 8 d. fealty Simon Swetyngges gives the lord a fine to have again from the lord's hands three acres of customary land, to hold to himself after they were seized for the cause abovesaid. And he did fealty. fine pardoned At this court the lord granted to Richard Rygoun and Lora his wife a messuage and 14 acres of customary land called Rygouns, which the same Richard and Lora formerly held and are now seized into the lord's hands because of the uproar recently in the country, to hold to the aforesaid Richard and Lora and their heirs at the lord's will according to the customs of the manor. And they give a fine for entry, as appears. And they did fealty. fine 12 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to Agnes wife of John atte Pounde a messuage, eight acres of land, and half an acre of meadow with the appurtenances, which the same Agnes formerly held and are seized into the lord's hands for the cause aforesaid, to hold to the aforesaid Agnes for her entire life at will etc. according to the customs etc. And she gives a fine for entry, as appears. And she did fealty. fine 4 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to Alice, recently wife of Richard Holyer, four acres of land and pasture and a piece of meadow called le Kangle, which the same Alice formerly held by the surrender of William Cokston, and afterward seized into the lord's hands for the cause aforesaid, to hold to the aforesaid Alice and her heirs at will etc. by the services and customs. And she gives a fine for entry, as appears. And she did fealty. fine 12 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to John Reve and Katherine his wife a messuage and 6 acres of customary land, once Joan Horn's, and which the same John and Katherine formerly held by the surrender of the aforesaid Joan, to hold to the aforesaid Johan and Katherine and the heirs of the aforesaid John at the lord's will according to the customs etc. And they give a fine for entry, as appears. And they did fealty. fine 12 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to John Reve a messuage, three acres and three rods of customary land which the same John formerly held of the lord in bondage, and seized into the lord's hands for the cause aforesaid, to hold to the aforesaid John and his heirs at the lord's will according to the customs etc. And he gives a fine for entry, as appears. And fealty [sic]. fine 4 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to Walter Hounte and Cristina his wife a cottage with curtilage and an adjacent croft of land, which the same Walter and Cristina formerly held and was seized into the lord's hands for the reason above said, to hold to the same Walter and Cristina and their heirs at the lord's will for the services and customs. And they give a fine for entry, as appears. And they did fealty. fealty John Holt did fealty for the third part of a messuage once Richard Spaldynges's called Botulfs with certain lands, gardens, meadows, and pastures belonging to the same third part, which the same John acquired from John Godynges of Yeldham. Also he did fealty for a messuage and its appurtenances acquired from William Crakebon of Stebbing. fine 12 d. fealty Henry Clerk gives a fine, as appears, for having again a messuage and 8 acres of customary lands recently seized into the lord's hands because of the uproar in the country. And they were granted to him, to hold according to the tenor of his original estate. fine 4 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to John Thecher and Margery his wife one acre of molland with the appurtenances, lying in a certain croft called Boxstedecroft, which the aforesaid John and Margery formerly held and was seized into the lord's hands for the reason abovesaid, to hold to the aforesaid John and Margery and the heirs of the same John at the lord's will by the services and customs etc. And they give a fine for entry, as appears. As they did fealty. fine 18 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to Mary wife of John Meller of Elmdon two and a half acres and one rod of bondage land, once Roger in le Heye's, which the aforesaid John and Mary (in the right of the same Mary) formerly held of the lord in bondage, and afterwards were seized into the lord's hands for the reason above said, to hold to the aforesaid Mary and her heirs at the will etc. by the services and customs. And she gives a fine for entry, as appears. And she did fealty. fine 12 d. fealty At this court the lord granted to Walter Godyngges two acres of customary land once William Crakebon's called Neritebill, which the same Walter formerly held of the lord by the rod, and were seized into the lord's hands for the reason aforesaid, to hold to the aforesaid Walter and his heirs at the will etc. by the services and customs etc. And he gives the lord a fine for entry, as appears. And he did fealty. Court, Eve of St Gregory Pope 6 Ric. II (11 March 1383) order It is ordered to seize into the lord's hands seven acres of neif land which John Holyer held of the lord by the rod and report about the profits because the said John thereof has not paid the fine nor took he up his tenantry anew till now. It is therefore ordered that of the above mentioned land Emma Stameres, John Koc, John Glasenwrygt and by rights of Johanna his wife respond about the profits. Court, Thursday after St Lucy the Virgin 7 Ric. II (17 December 1383) fine, 3 d. fealty John Glasewrigte and Joan his wife at this court took from the lord half a rood of customary land which the same John and Joan held of the lord before the uproar recently in the country, as in the right of the aforesaid Joan, and seized into the lord's hands because of the uproar etc., and for lack of the lord's rolls which were burnt, to whom the lord granted seisin therein, to hold to the same John and Joan and the heirs of the aforesaid Joan at the will etc., according to the customs etc. And they give a fine for entry, as appears.
