Text (English translation)London. Ralph de Wardale, John Rande, John Holeherst of Eltham junior, Severus parson of Charlton, Richard Pode of Eltham and William Pode of Eltham were attached to answer Adam de Bury in a plea that with force and arms together with John Danyel of Stratford-le-Bow, Thomas Hastenyleyn of Dartford, William Forester of Dartford, draper, broke the close and houses of the same Adam at London and tore up and burnt charters, deeds and other of his muniments they found there and took and carried away his goods and chattels worth £40 and other enormities etc. and to the grave damage etc. and against the peace of the lord king. And therefore the same Adam by Edmund Heryng his attorney impleaded that the aforesaid Ralph Wardale, John Rande, John Holeherst of Eltham junior, Severus, parson of Charlton, Richard and William on Saturday after Corpus Christi 4 Richard II (15 June 1381) with force and arms together with etc., namely with swords, lances, clubs etc., broke the close and houses of the same Adam at London, namely in the parish of St Stephen and in Walbrook ward, and tore up and burnt charters, namely the charter of the purchase of the manor of Combe and his messuage in Walbrook, and deeds, namely a bond for £40 and other of his muniments, namely court rolls, they found there, and they took and carried away goods and chattels, namely eight basins, eight silver lavatories, plates and silver spoons they found there, worth £40 wash, and other enormities etc. at the grave damage etc. and against the peace of the lord king; and whereof he says that he suffers damage. And the damage he has is worth £100 and therefore he brings this suit etc. And the aforesaid Ralph de Wardale, John Rande, John Holeherst, Severus, Richard Pode and William Pode by John Base, their attorney, come and defend the force and injury whenever etc. ... And they say that they are not guilty. And they put themselves upon the country. And the aforesaid Adam does the same. Therefore a jury is ordered to come before the king's bench in the quindene of St Michaelmas etc. Therefore a day is given to both, the aforesaid Adam, and the aforesaid Ralph, John, John, Richard and William etc. And upon this come Roger Criour, William Thornton, John Scot and John Croft and mainprise the aforesaid Severus to have his body before the king's bench from day to day ... The same Adam by his attorney appears against John Danyel of Stratford(-le-Bow), Thomas Hastenyleyn of Dartford and William Forster of Dartford in the aforesaid plea. And they do not come ...
