Text (English translation) | Essex. Egidius atte Grene, plaintiff, by John Sumpter his attorney, appears against Richard Gest of Wix on a plea that with force and arms he broke the close of the said Egidius at Great Oakley took and carried away a chest containing his charters, deeds and other muniments he found there. Sheriff had been ordered to arrest him. He now reports that he cannot be found. Sheriff ordered as before to arrest him and to bring him before the Court of Common Pleas in Trinity term 5 Richard II Essex. Thomas Coupeland, plaintiff, by John Martel his attorney appears against John Coldham, John Asshy, Simon Duraunt and John Henry of Clavering on a plea that with force and arms they took and carried away goods and chattels of the said Thomas worth £20 at Clavering and also burnt a chest found there containing charters writings and other muniments. Sheriff had been ordered to arrest them. He returns that they cannot be found. Sheriff ordered to arrest them to be in the Court of Common Pleas in Trinity term 5 Richard II. Sheriff does not send the writs therefore he is ordered to have the defendants in court in Michaelmas term. |
