Text (English translation)The petitioners request remedy, stating that during the recent troubles various rioters took by force the common seal of the town and forced them to make various bonds against their will. They also replaced the usual governance of the town, by 12 men elected annually on St Mark's day, with an alderman and two chamberlains, although there have been no such officials in Beverley for 50 years except Manby and Ryse, who were deposed for their bad governance.
