Text (English translation)Bond of William de Dudhille binding himself in the sum of 100 marks to White and Newark, to be paid at Beverley at the feast of the apostles Peter and Paul next. Response: The condition of the writing is that if Dudhille stands to the judgment of the archbishop and his council in the matters that the community of Beverley should bring then the obligation is to be null.
General Information? 1381 The bond is dated in its dating clause to 27 June 1380 (4 Ric. II). However, this is likely to be an error as the bond is almost certainly contemporary with bonds such as SC 8/225/11225 and 11226, and the scribe who produced the bond forgot that Richard II's regnal year began on 22 June, and the bond actually dates to 1381. If the dating is not an error it would push the date of the rebellion in Beverley back quite considerably as C.T. Flower dated the period of the taking of the bonds from 8 June 1381 to the end of the month (Beverley Town Riots, pp.83-4).
