Text (English translation)Essex. Joan, Countess of Hereford, plaintiff, by Thomas May her attorney, appears against William Chaloner, Thomas Howe and Ralph Bierden, defendants, on a plea that with force and arms they broke the close and houses of the said Countess at Harlow and took and burnt a bag with charters, deeds and other muniments found there. And [they committed] other enormities etc. And against the peace etc. They do not come. The sheriff has been ordered to attach them. And the sheriff now reports that they do not have anything [by which they can be distrained] etc. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to arrest them etc. ... And to have their bodies here in court in the quindene of Hilary...
