Text (English translation)For certain persons of the town of Bury [St Edmunds]. The King to his treasurer and barons of the exchequer greetings. Recently, at the request of certain magnates of ours, the people of the town of Bury [St Edmunds], excluded pardon and forgiveness at our parliaments of 5 Rich. II and 6 Rich. II [May and October 1382], humbly submitted themselves to our grace for a fine of 2,000m made with the council, 500m thereof to be paid in the octave of St. Hillary, 6 Rich. II [1383], 500m on the feast of the nativity of St John the Baptist next [24 June], and the remaining 1,000m at Christmas next. Yet now, moved by certain and reasonable council, we gave to certain persons, and other men of the aforesaid town, relief from the 500m which still remained to be paid of the aforesaid sum, until the close of Easter next [9 April 1385]. And therefore, it is ordered you all permit the men of the aforesaid town to have relief from the said 500m, themselves unmolested etc. Witnessed by myself at Westminster, 12 February 8 Rich. II [1385].
