Text (English translation)Somerset. Concerning Robert Kyngman, one of the valets of the king's pantry, answerable regarding the extent of all lands which belonged to Thomas de Ingelby of Briggewater [Bridgwater, Som.] etc. It was ascertained in the originalia of 8 Rich. II [1384‒5] that the same lord king, through his letters patent under his great seal dated 21 October 6 Rich. II [1382], by his special grace and for the good service that the beloved servant of the same lord King, Robert Kyngman, one from the lord king's pantry, devoted and might devote thereafter, granted the same Robert all the lands and tenements with pertinences which belonged to Thomas de Ingelby of Briggewater [Bridgwater, Som.], in the county of Somerset, which, by reason of certain treasons whereof the same Thomas was lately indicted and convicted, were forfeited to the lord King, just as through a certain inquiry held before the lord King's escheator of said county of Somerset etc., to be had and to be held by the same Robert until the end of his life, provided they are not worth more than 60s. per annum, that, if they are of greater value, then the same Robert should answer the lord King in his exchequer for how much they are worth beyond said 60s. etc. After the death of the said Robert saw said lands and tenements with pertinences revert fully to the same lord King, a certain extent of all that belonged to Thomas de Ingelby was made at Lanport [Langport, Som.] before Richard Virgo, king's escheator of the lord King in the county aforesaid, on 4 April 9 Rich. II [1386]. It was discovered that the true value of all the revenues of one carucate of land with pertinences in Stondeneye, which belonged to the aforesaid Thomas on the day of the perpetration of the felony aforesaid, is nearly 40s. per annum, and that one messuage with a courtyard that the same Thomas had in Ievelcestr' [Ilchester, Som.] is worth close to 2s. per annum, over and above deductions, and that 18 acres with pertinences in Lymyngton [Limington, Som.], which belonged to the same, is worth nearly 20s. per annum after deductions, and that the same Thomas had no other lands or tenements in the aforesaid county on the day of the perpetration of the felony aforesaid nor at any time after, that for now the sum total of the extent is 62s. per annum. Regarding which, it is adjudged that the aforesaid Robert Kyngman is answerable to the King regarding 2s. per annum from the aforesaid 21 October 6 Rich. II [1382] etc., save always the action of the King etc.
