Joan, Countess of Hereford, plaintiff, by John de Bretton her attorney appears against William Shrub of Hatfield Broad Oak, Philipp Palmere, John Loveday, John Cook of Bush End [in Hatfield Broad Oak], Robert Haver, John Whitemay, John Bromhill, Roger Palmere, John Rede, William Crishale, Stephen Ryngedale, John Coppyng, John Haukyn, William Dykes, Nicholas Coggeshale, John Brond junior, Richard Palmere, Roger Pach, Thomas Cotiller, Richard Hut, William Roberd of Broomshawbury [in Hatfield Broad Oak], John Fleg, John Stakwode, John Flemyng, John Waryn, Robert Gilleson, Roger Mellere, Richard Chapman, Robert Whyte, Hugo Olyver, John Morte,John Londenyssh, Robert Haselwode, and Roger Huberd, defendants, on a plea that with force and arms they broke the close and houses of the said Countess at Hatfield Broad Oak and took and carried away goods and chattels worth 40 pounds found there and burnt charters, deeds and other muniments found there. And they inflicted other enormities on them to the grave injury of the same countess and against the king's peace etc. And they [the defendants] do not come. The sheriff is ordered to attach them etc. And the sheriff now sends words that they have nothing [by which they can be distrained] etc. Therefore, the sheriff is ordered to arrest them etc. ... So that he has their bodies here in the octave of Hilary ... At which day the sheriff did not sent the writs. Therefore, the sheriff, as before, is ordered to arrest them to be in court in the octave of Easter ... |
