Text (English translation) | For Simon de Burgh. The King to his treasurer and barons of the exchequer greetings. Although recently we committed to Simon de Burgh custody of all lands and tenements with pertinences which belonged to Geoffrey Cobbe in the vills of Wympole, Orwell, Crawedon, Papworth, Harleton, Wrastlyngworth and Arryngton, which, on the occasion of the treachery and felony of the same, perpetrated against his allegiance, were confiscated by us etc.; however, because a certain certificate of our escheator in Cambridgeshire, which made mention of such treachery in our chancery, having been seen and examined by members of our council, the members advised us that the cause expressed in said certificate was less than sufficient, we pardoned the same Geoffrey for whatever treacheries, felonies and transgressions done, or perpetrated, in the rebellion by a great many of our people in diverse parts of our kingdom of England, just as recently made in our letters patent. You we order that the demand, made by means of the aforesaid summons of the exchequer, that the same Simon answer to us regarding the farm or revenues of the aforesaid lands and tenements from the time of their seizure into our hand, be desisted ['fieri facitis supersederi']; and so, for his part, as the aforesaid Geoffrey, and also our escheators, and whosoever other henceforth, be discharged at the same exchequer and made quit. Witnessed by myself at Westminster 8 July, 6 Rich. II [1382]. |
