Text (English translation) | Essex. Joan, Princess of Wales by John de Bretton her attorney appears against Thomas Joce, Thomas Batayle, Thomas Cook and John Broun, defendants, on a plea that with force and arms they broke the close of the said Princess at North Weald Bassett and took and carried away goods and chattels found there worth £100 and burnt charters, deeds, rolls and rentals and other of her muniments found there and they committed other enormities to the great damage of the said Princess and against the peace. And they [the defendants] do not come. Sheriff ordered to arrest them. Sheriff declares that they could not be found. Sheriff ordered to arrest them and to bring them here on in quindene of Pascha. At which day did not send his letters. Therefore it is ordered to be in court in the octave of St Trinity [1384]. |
