Text (English translation)[Essex] Furthermore, Thomas Frost of Bradwell on Sea was arrested on an indictment made before the aforesaid justices of the peace, namely that on Wednesday on the eve of Corpus Christi in the fourth year of the reign of king Richard II [12 June 1381] he together with William Borefare feloniously broke open the house of Edmund de la Mare in Peldon and with others unknown of his assent took and carried away goods and chattels found there to the value of 100s. Now he comes before the aforesaid justices led by the sheriff. And the indictments were reviewed etc. And they are asked separately how they wished to answer to the charges of of the aforesaid felonies, and every single one says that they were not guilty. And therefore for good or ill they separately placed themselves upon their country. And on this a jury was formed etc. The jurors comes and immediately elected, tried and sworn say upon their oath that the aforesaid ... [names of other prisoners] and Thomas Frost are not guilty of the aforesaid felonies of which they are separately accused ... And therefore they go acquitted etc.
