Text (English translation)At the delivery held at the Castle of Hadleigh on Monday before [recte: after?] the feast of St Thomas the Martyr in the above-said year [8th July 1381] before the same justices. Inquisition of the hundred of Rochester held there on the aforesaid day and year upon the trial of John Glasyere of Rochford, Ralph Spycer of Prittlewell, Thomas Hilstone of Rochford, John Man of Shoebury, Peter Whyte, Robert Andrew, John Deth of Canewdon, John Loftman junior, Andrew Colman of Leigh on Sea, John Hurt of Shoebury, William Jobe, John Chaundeler of Prittlewell, John Mot of Thorpe-Bay upon the oath of John Pritewell senior, William de Pakelisham, William Todenham, John Wakeryng, John Well, Thomas Ivel, Nicolas Ramiche, Thomas Waldon, William Totham, [5 names crossed through: John Mot de Canewdon, William Hare, Thomas Sampson, John Creps, John Elys de Leigh], Thomas Broun, Robert Todenham, and John Barenten who say upon their oath that the aforesaid John Glasyere, Ralph Spycer and William Jobe are guilty of that which they have been indicted. Judgement is therefore given by the aforesaid justices that the same John, Ralph and William are to be drawn and hanged, moreover they say that John Glasyere does not have any chattel, land nor tenement on the day he committed the aforesaid felonies etc., and that Ralph Spycer has chattels to the value of 20 s. on the day he committed the aforesaid felonies, and that William Jobe has chattels to the value of 5 marks on the day he committed the aforesaid felonies, and furthermore they say that the other accused are not guilty of that which they have been indicted and that none of them withdrew himself from suit. Judgement is therefore given by the same justices that they are quit.
