Text (English translation) | Humbleyard hundred Inquisition held at Norwich before William de Ufford, earl of Suffolk, and his associate justices of the lord king etc. namely on Saturday 6th July 1381 by Hugo de Dunston, Nicholas atte Launde, Geoffrey Bolehorn, Thomas Monk, Richard de Melton, Robert Boteler, Robert de Bumstede of Keswick, John de Carleton, barker, John de Brakene, John Coket, William de Moorgate and Robert atte Hirne, jurors, who say upon their oath that Thomas Thaxstere of East Carlton on Tuesday 18th June 1381 at the time of the rising feloniously beheaded William Savage of East Carlton at the village of Ketteringham on the abetment and procurement of Thomas Wycher of East Carlton and William Cokyl of Hethersett. Also the aforesaid jurors say that on Tuesday 18th June 1381 Geoffrey Lestan of Hackford, beheaded, with others unknown feloniously stole from John de Brakene at Bracon Ash 28 oxen, three horses and other goods and chattels found there worth £20 and took them and carried them away. |
