Text (English translation) | Also that William Smyth (beheaded) of Great Massingham rose up of his own free will against the king's crown and was a chief leader, and despoiled the houses of John Reed and broke into them feloniously on Monday 17th June 1381 at Rougham. Also that Thomas de Gyssyng junior, chief leader, on the same Monday plundered horses worth 100 s. from John Reed of Rougham at Rougham. Also that Roger Egelyn of Necton on Sunday 23rd June 1381 rose up against the crown of his own free will at Necton and gathered together an assembly at Swaffham and elsewhere, and threatened the life and limb of Thomas de Tyneteshale and the Lady of Necton and to burn their houses until he took a fine of 40 s. Also that Phillip Durynol rose up of his own free will on Monday 17th June 1381 and at Rougham he despoiled John Reed and feloniously broke into his houses. Also that John Appelowe of Hingham, William Sevepens of Castle Acre and William Horseoft of Raynham on the Monday aforesaid rose up their own free will against the crown and feloniously broke into the houses of Edmund Gurnay at West Lexham and Thomas Clog, clerk, at Kempston, and there took and carried away goods and chattels worth 10 marks. |
