Text (English translation)Jurors of Hartismere say that Jacob de Bedyngfeld was ringleader of a certain county commons which plundered Edmund de Lakyngheth of various goods and chattels worth 40 s. at Stoke Ash, nevertheless he [Jacob] restored the said goods to the aforementioned Edmund. The said Jacob took and imprisoned Robert Durant, bailiff of the said Edmund, until he made a fine of 40 s. that his life might be saved, but the said fine was not paid back. Robert Priour of Mendlesham, ringleader of the commons, compelled various men to swear to rise against the peace. The same Robert plundered John Herlyngge of various goods and chattels worth 60 s. at Stratton St Mary. Peter Catalene of Botesdale was at the plundering of John de Herlyngge at East Harling, for which reason he is now a fugitive. John atte Hous of Finningham threatened John Edmund and Nicholas Blome that he would burn their houses, out of old emnity, for which reason he is fugitive. All the aforesaid was done on Sunday 16th June 1381.
