Item dicunt quod Iohannes Essex de Chatham fregit cameram Willelmi Symme de Upcherche et arma et alia catalla in dicta camera inventa despoilavit die dominica in festo Sancte Trinitatis anno quarto. Item dicunt quod Willelmus Drew de Chatham fregit domum Sancti Iohannis die veneris proxima post festum Trinitatis anno quarto apud Clerkenwell. Item dicunt quod Thomas Berghestode de Gillyngham et Iohannes Wyse de parochia de Mepeham fecerunt in principio populum de Gillyngham surgere dicendo et minando populum quod nisi venerunt cum eisdem in comitiva voluerunt eos decollare et domum eorum frangere die veneris ante festum Trinitatis et postea post dictum festum Trinitatis similiter. Et eciam predicti Thomae Berghestede et Iohannes Wyse intraverunt clausum Willelmi et Thomae de Bedemanton et in cameris predictorum Thome et Iohannis intraverunt et cartas et alias munimentas in cistris inventa ceperunt et asportaverunt die Sancte Trinitatis anno quarto. Item dicunt quod predictus Thomas Berghestede venit super terram Ricardi de Gillyngham die veneris ante festum Sancte Trinitatis anno quarto et eidem Ricardum insultum fecit et ipsum verbavit apud Gillyngham et etiam Henricum et Adam famulos predicti Ricardi verbaverit vulneravit minando eosdem cum mala societate die et anno et loco predictis. Et quod dictus Thomas est communis perturbator pacis. Item dicunt quod Symon Postlyng de Maidestane die sabbati proxima post festum Trinitatis ad domum Ricardi de Gyllyngham clamando ius in dicto domo et firma et dicendo quod nisi voluerit attornare sibi quod dicit unam comitivam sibi ad faciendum ipsum attornare et propter metum predictus Ricardus attornatus sibi. Item dicunt quod Iohannes Kot de parochia de Halgheste in hundredo de Middelton et Thomas filius Iohannis Hounte de Middelton venerunt ad domum Gilberti atte Sole cum magna societate et eidem Gilbertum insultum fecit et minando quod voluit decollare predictum Gilbertum et frangere domos suos et tota patria de Gillingham venerunt super ipsos et fecerunt rescusse et co. Text (English translation) | Hundred of Chatham and Gillingham William son of Richard atte Broke of Chatham beheaded John Charlet on 9th June 1381. John Essex of Chatham broke into the chamber of William Symme of Upchurch on 9th June 1381 and plundered arms and other chattels in the said chamber. William Drew of Chatham broke into the Hospital of St John at Clerkenwell on 14th June 1381. Thomas Berghestode of Gillingham and John Wyse of the parish of Meopham were said to be amongst the first of the people of Gillingham to rise and to have threatened the people that unless they came with them they would behead them and break their houses on 7th June 1381, and afterwards on 9th June they did the same. And also on the 9th June the said Thomas and John entered the chambers of William and Thomas de Bedemanton and took and carried away charters and other muniments. The said Thomas Berghestede went onto the land of Richard de Gillingham on 7th June 1381 and assaulted and struck him at Gillingham, and likewise on the day aforesaid struck and wounded Henry and Adam, servants of the said Richard threatening them with the evil company. And that the said Thomas is a common disturber of the peace. Simon Postlyng of Maidstone on 15th June 1381 went to the house of Richard de Gillingham claiming a right in the said house and farm and saying that unless Richard acknowledged this he would bring a company to force him to do so and for fear Richard pledged himself to him. John Kot of the parish of (Lower) Halstow in the hundred of Milton and Thomas son of John Hounte of Milton went to the house of Gilbert atte Sole with a great company and made an assault on Gilbert and threatened to behead him and to wreck his house, and they went throughout all the country of Gillingham and made forcible recoveries. Simon Postlyng of Maidstone made an assault on Steven atte Mersh of Gillingham on 15th June 1381 at Gillingham and struck him to the ground and beat him, against the peace.
