Text (English translation)Essex. John Hosye and John Fullere of Toppesfield, defendants, attached to answer William Heyward of Stock, plaintiff, on a plea that they assaulted William at Sturmer, beat, wounded and ill treated him and threatened him with death and the mutilation of his members until the same William made a fine with the said John and John of five marks to save his life. Robert Pulter of Witham attached to answer John Ewell on a plea that, together with John atte Wode of Coggeshall, John Coteman of Coggeshall, John Pakkard of Coggeshall, John Bovyndon of Hatfield, John Kyng of Hatfield, John Coggeshale tailor, John Herde and John Elmestede junior, with force and arms he assaulted John Ewell at Coggeshall and beat wounded and ill-treated him to the grave damage of John Ewell himself and against the peace of the King.
