John Gildesburgh, knight, plaintiff, appears by John Giffard his attorney, against Richard Prentys of Brentwood, John Mot of Coggeshall, John Maldon of Aveley, John son of Nicholas Turvey of Romford, John Bret of Havering-atte-Bower, Richard Chaundeler of Brentwood, Simon Milner of Brentwood, John Dene of Great Warley, Robert Serle of Great Warley, Richard Saman of Havering-atte-Bower, butcher, William Brook of Havering-atte-Bower, John Millere of Hornchurch, Seman Trillyng, John Donneman of Romford, Richard Quylter of Romford, Seman Gale of Havering-atte-Bower, Thomas Cartere of Upminster Hall, John Bakere of Brentwood, John Sprot of Brentwood, Richard Offyngton, Richard Parker of Coggeshall, Ralph Struggul, Stephen Bernard, Thomas Curteys of Coggeshall, John Carwe, John Willot of Upminster, Robert Colyn of Little Warley, John Chapman of Childerditch, Thomas Parker of Little Warley, William Clerk of Little Warley, defendants, on a plea that they broke the close and houses of John Gildesburgh at Wennington and High Easter and burnt charters, deeds, rolls and other muniments found there and took and carried away goods and chattels worth £40 found there and made death threats against Gildesburgh's men and servants so that they did not dare not go to his manors to plough the land or tend the animals so that he lost the profits from the lands and animals and the services of men for a great period of time. And other enormities etc. And against the peace etc. And they do not come. And the sheriff had been ordered to attach them. And the sheriff now reports that Robert Prentys is attached by John Mot and Robert Clerk. And the said John Mot [is attached] by Richard Prentys and Thomas Smyth. Therefore, they are in mercy etc. And the sheriff is ordered to distrain them by all their lands etc. And to report about the profit etc. And that he has their bodies here in the quindene of Trinity. And also about John and all all the others the sheriff reports that they have nothing [by which they can be distrained] etc. And the sheriff is ordered to arrest them etc. So that he has their bodies in court at the aforesaid term etc. |
