| 4669 | Petition from Elizabeth wife of Sir William Botriaux concerning false accusation | Petition to king and lords in parliament from Elizabeth wife of Sir William Botriaux, who is in the king's service in Portugal, stating that William has been maliciously and falsely indicted in his absence by procurement of his enemies Ralph Carmynou, knight, John Trevarthian and John Penros. She declares that a year ago Sir William recovered by assize of novel disseisin the manor of Trembethow from the said John Trevarthian, John Penros, and when he went overseas the said John Trevarthian and others forcibly entered on the said manor, destroyed buildings, removed timber and drove away and carried off beasts and other possessions of Richard Eir, Sir William's tenant there, to the value of 40 marks, and have also indicted the said Richard Eir of treason and felonies, sending people to watch for and to kill him, so that he does not dare to go to his own country for fear of death. The petitioner prays aid, the said John Trevarthian and his adherents being so powerful in the country that none can have common law or right against them. | 4672 | William Botreaux attacks the manor of Ralph Carminow | Inquisition taken before Kentwood and Basset at Lostwithiel on Monday before St Lawrence in the 5th year of Richard II [1381]: Reynewerd, Dauvant, Tremur, Lova, Lampen, Weynaund, Lawarnwestera, Trevedow, Devan, Ward, Lostquyt and Rogg say that Botreaux, knowing that certain of the community of Essex and Kent, traitors to the King, had armed themselves and rebelled against the King, burned various houses and other goods and beheaded and killed the King's chancellor and treasurer and many others, gathered together 80 traitors to the King in support of this community and other traitors and rose up against the King's law on Wednesday after St John the Baptist 5 Richard II [1381] when the said 80 traitors gathered by Botreaux came with force and arms against the peace to Carminow's manor and broke and destroyed a door, a stone wall and his park there, released 20 of his animals which they killed and took away to Botreaux's manor of Botelet, and killed Carminow's servants in his manor of Boconnoc. | Boconnoc,Cornwall | Accused | View Incident page |
