4655 | Order concerning claim by John Spicer of Canterbury that his muniments were destroyed | To the bailiffs of the town of Canterbury. Writ of supersedeas until the next parliament, upon petition of John Spicer citizen of Canterbury, in respect of a plea pending before them in the king's court of the town between the said John and Robert Gygour of Canterbury upon an assize of fresh force, or the further execution of judgment thereupon, if assured by inquisition or otherwise that the petitioner's charters and muniments concerning tenements there, whereby if he had them ready he should reap advantage and aid in that plea, are by the late insurgents burnt, eloigned and destroyed, any command to proceed to them formerly or hereafter addressed notwithstanding; as he has prayed the king's aid lest for lack of charters etc. he should sustain prejudice, and it is the king's will by advice of the lords and great men in the next parliament to provide a remedy in all such cases. | Canterbury,Kent | Mentioned | View Incident page |
