John de Carleton forces Richard, vicar of Mattishall, to pay a fine
And that on Monday 17th June 1381, John son of Phillip de Carleton came to Mattishall with force and arms and against the king's peace along with many others unknown, and made Richard, vicar of the church of the aforesaid village, pay a fine of half a mark and more, by instigation of John Ladde.
And that the same John son of Phillip on the aforesaid day came with force and arms and against the peace to the house of Thomas de Bumstede in Mattishall with others unknown and sought him out, and threatened his life and limb, so that he fled his house for five days and more etc.
