John de Spanye searches for men of Flanders and threatens Ralph Panton
John de Spanye of King's Lynn, cordwainer, on Monday 17th June 1381 at the time of this rumour, was a chief leader of wrongdoers in the country, and he came to Snettisham with force and arms with thirty unknown men, and incited men of that village to rise up against the king's peace, and to look for men of the country of Flanders in order to kill and behead them, and similarly he threatened Ralph Panton so that the same Ralph, despairing of life and limb, pledged to pay 10 s. to a certain servant of the said John, against the king's peace and law.
